A new partnership with the Nasio Trust (www.thenasiotrust.org)

11th August 2024

EfD is delighted to be working together with the Nasio Trust on a long term project to support farming families in one of the poorest regions of Kenya. Our senior associate, Hosea Machuki, has been working with  Nasio staff and partners in Kakamega district, introducing them to the Individual Household  Method of data collection (IHM) . The detailed information on household livelihoods the team collected will help Nasio get the right support to families, helping them to raise their incomes and break the cycle of poverty which is the root cause of much of the poor health, under-nutrition and low educational outcomes affecting children across the communities Nasio supports.

EfD and the Nasio Trust share a common commitment to working with communities over the long term. We are helping families find pathways out of poverty, using  the best possible evidence and information to get the right assistance that fits the circumstances of individual households, and tracking changes so we know what impact this support is having.

The Walker Institute (https://walker.reading.ac.uk/)  from the University or Reading, which supports climate adaptation and local understanding of climate risk will also be playing a role, providing information on the way that climate change is likely to affect the community in future years, so that they-and wider authorities- can better prepare for the future.

We’ll be posting more information on this project-so look out for updates here and on the Nasio Trust website /www.thenasiotrust.org/.
